Be The Best Sport Wins Gold
This past month, Be The Best Sport entered into the Long Island Special Olympics Competition at Great Neck North High School. The event had over 100 participants competing in both the Skills Challenge and the Basketball Tournament. The gym was filled with enthusiastic parents, athletes, volunteers and coaches cheering on their team and showing their undying support and dedication.
Be The Best Sport’s basketball team did a fantastic job in the Skills Challenge and received five gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals. Be The Best Sport athletes A.J. Abreu, Gabe Corzo, Anthony Garcia, Peter Giannios, Andrew Gillette, Andrew Goring, Jake Koukou and Marc Purcell were the stars of the day. Head Coaches John Petitto and Brian Moran trained the eight athletes for sixteen weeks for the Special Olympics event. Head Coach John Petitto stated “It was a great experience to watch our athletes compete with other players in the local area. I am very impressed with how hard they work, how dedicated they are, and how much support we receive from the parents of our athletes. I’m looking forward to our next challenge and taking our athletes to the next level.”
The basketball program will continue throughout the summer and into the following school year, as they set on to their next challenge in competing in the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament next May.
We would like to thank everyone involved for their passion and dedication. It is because of their support that our programs have grown tremendously and will continue to cater to the special needs population.
Be The Best Sport is a sports enrichment program for children with special needs and offers basketball and soccer classes for athletes. The program is run out of Unlimited Sports Action’s indoor sports facility for athletes ages 3 – 18.
